Meanwhile, I finally finished cleaning up the scan of the experimental Cang Lan Jue piece - this took a while because the paper buckled pretty heavily on this one, which meant that when I scanned it in two halves (because it’s too big to fit on my scanner bed), the pieces didn’t really line up. So that took a while to fix.
On the whole, I have kind of mixed feelings about this one. I like the composition as a whole, and I think Xiao Lanhua came out quite well. The gold leaf experiment, however, didn’t really work, and I think I wasn’t ambitious enough about Dongfeng Qingcang’s robes; they’re kind of boring, which isn’t something you could say about how he dressed in the show.
Still, overall I think the positives outweigh the negatives?
